Presenting - DUFFY

Seriously, before i was introduced to this girl, i've never listened to any of her songs.. yes, i've heard of the name - Aimee Duffy, but i never really took notice.. and oh boy, i missed a lot..! but don't worry, the album has not dropped at our shores yet.. it will in a couple of days.. and i'm sure i'll get a copy of it..!!

Anyway, Duffy is actually a Welsh singer who participated in a competition called Wawffactor - a Welsh alternative to Pop Idol.. she was expected to win, but eventually came in second.. that was way back in 2003, and now she's back to conquer the world..!! well, that seems like an over-statement, but i believe she can.. she has a great voice which is very unique.. she have her own style & the complete package to be a star.. and she's well on her way of being one of the brightest stars in 2008.. listen to her music and watch her videos, and you'll agree..

These are few songs that i've listened to and seriously, they're not bad.. not bad at all in fact..

Mercy - This is such a catchy song.. you'll love it instantly when you hear this song.. (well, in my case, that is!).. it does come across a bit like Amy Winehouse's Rehab though.. but, this song is more intense compared to Amy's.. it has a more funky vibe to it which reflects Duffy's personality.. i believe this is the strongest song that represents Duffy as a singer.. not surprised it shot straight to no.1 in the UK.



Rockferry - This is actually the 1st single by Duffy which was released in 2007 in the UK.. it didn't do as well as Mercy coz i believe it's not the mainstream type of song that people would request to hear on the radio.. however, i believe this song was chosen because it showcased Duffy's amazing vocal range & unique style.. it's such a big melodramatic ballad with really highlights Duffy's strength as a singer.

Warwick Avenue - i love this song..!! it's a very relaxed, laid-back & pleasent song to listen to.. the soulful-bluesy melody is just brilliant.. this is said to be the next single after Mercy, and i'm pleased to learn that.

Serious - this is perhaps my least favourite song from all 5 songs that i've listened to.. that being said, the song is not just a filler on the album.. being my least favourite, i can still listen to it over and over.. that's why i can't wait to get a copy of the full album.. the songs are fantastic!

Distant Dreamer - this is such an inspirational song..! Duffy's boisterous vocals just soars in this big song accompanied by a big orchestral arrangement.. a perfect closing to an amazing journey of musical genius..!

All in all, these songs are brilliant and i expect the rest of the songs would be as fantastic.. Fans of soul funky music, would definitely love the album. Duffy has the advantage of appealing to all ages with her Dusty Springsfield's 60s vibe and the youngsters post-Amy Winehouse era.. The album is a definite must buy. (4 stars)
